Bulldogs Hold Off Ravens

The Bellingham Bulldogs tackled a familiar foe from the past in the Renton Ravens Saturday, July 9th at Lummi High School Field. This evening the Bulldogs honored a fallen bother as they paid tribute to the memory of #41, Doug Neumann.

The somber tone set by the ceremony would quickly dissipate as the Ravens struck early with a touchdown. Bellingham's offense struggled to finish off drives and looked sluggish off the line of scrimmage. But the Bulldogs defense kept the Ravens out of the end zone, giving their offense plenty of opportunities to even the score.

Throughout the game both sides were heated, resulting in several drive-killing penalties. The Bulldogs and Ravens utilized their ground game, pounding out each yard. However, Bellingham would be the first to open up their passing attack and ultimately besting their long-time rival in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. Final score 19-14. Bulldogs Plunder Vikings

The Bellingham Bulldogs hand the Snohomish County Vikings their first loss of the 2016 WWFA season Saturday, June 18th at Lummi High School field. The Vikings came into the evenings match with an undefeated record of 5-0. After a tough home loss to the Rams and a road victory over the Wolfpack, Bellingham was looking to make a statement by taking out one of the leagues top teams.

The Bulldogs defense needed to stop the powerful ground attack that propelled Snohomish through their earlier opponents. Bellingham also needed a powerful ground game to control the clock and field position. They accomplished both in dominating fashion.

Throughout the first half, the defense bent but did not break, allowing the Vikings large chunks of yards via their three-back system. However as the field shortened the Bulldogs stiffened, forcing turnovers on downs, interceptions and fumbles, scoring two touchdowns in the effort. Thanks to a strip sack by linebacker Kaleb Heezen which lead to a scoop-and-score touchdown for fellow linebacker Seth Antila. Corner back Jason Walters would account for an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Bellingham's offensive line pushed the Vikings defense up and down the field allowing running back Brandon Fisher and quarterback Kyle Redmond the space to operate. Fisher would rack up two touchdowns with one run more than 70 yards. Redmond would also score two touchdowns, one on a 30-yard scramble and the other a 43-yard pass to receiver Cody Oakes.

The Bulldogs sit a game over .500 with a 3-2 record and 2-2 record in the division with three games left in the regular season. There is still time for Bellingham to make a push for the playoffs and dominating play on both sides will be the key. Final score 42-0. Click here to view photos from the game.

Rams Batter Bulldogs

The Bellingham Bulldogs faced another tough opponent in the Western Washington Football Alliance Saturday, June 4th at Lummi High School. The visiting Wenatchee Valley Rams brought their bruising ground attack to the Bulldogs and repeatedly pummeled their defensive line. From the fumble of the opening kickoff to the final horn blast the Bulldogs could not stop the Wenatchee juggernaut.

Bellingham received the opening kick in the first half but quickly turned the ball over. The Rams took advantage of the short field and moved into the red zone. Bellingham stayed firm and held the Rams to a field goal. The Bulldogs would rally in their second possession, moving the ball efficiently down field with a balanced offensive attack. They would score via the legs of quarterback Kyle Redmond. But the lead would not last and the Bulldogs would not score another point as the Rams lowered their heads and charged forward.

The Rams kept pounding the line of scrimmage, scoring eight unanswered touchdowns, all via their running game. As the Bulldogs struggled to set the edge on defense and complete passes on offense. Final score: 7-58. The Bulldogs are 1-2 in the WWFA with five games remaining in their 2016 season. Click here to view photos from the game.

Dogs Stumble in Home Opener

The Bellingham Bulldogs falter in their first WWFA regular season home game against the Puallup Nation Kings Saturday, May 21st at Civic Field. This was the Bulldogs second match-up of the 2016 campaign against a WWFA team. Puallup, 2015 WWFA champions, would be prove to be the ultimate test for how the Bulldogs measured up in their new league.

The Kings jumped out early, scoring 12 unanswered points on their first two possessions with two touchdowns. Dominating the line of scrimmage, Puallup exacted their will with both running and passing. But Bellingham would gather themselves and quickly close the gap. Utilizing their still developing ground attack, the Bulldogs bullied their way down-field. Taking the lead just before halftime with two touchdowns.

Bellingham tacked on a field goal on the opening possession of the second half. However Puallup would prove to Bellingham why they are champion, scoring two more touchdowns in third quarter. The Bulldogs defense rallied, stopping the Kings twice in the red-zone, and scoring a touchdown off a bizarre interception and fumble recovery combination play. But the turnovers caused by miscues in the passing game spelled the end of a Bulldogs comeback. Final score: 23-38. Click here to view photos from the game.

Momma Said Knock You Out

The Bellingham Bulldogs followed suit, knocking out the visiting Pacific Football League South Sound Nighthawks, Saturday May 7th, on Mother's Day Weekend at Lummi High School. Closing out their preseason undefeated, the Bulldogs look to take on the rest of the WWFA in their inaugural season.

Bellingham's offense started sluggish, trading punts on their first and second drives. However a shortened field on a muffed punt return by the Nighthawks turned into a scoring opportunity. After a series of running plays the Bulldogs struck with their first touchdown pass of the game. They would strike again on their next possession but this time on the ground. With less than one minute left on the clock in the second quarter Bellingham would scored again with a field goal.

The Bulldogs' defense imposed their will early on. Bending just enough but not allowing a single Nighthawk to score the entire game. Bellingham would tack on two more touchdowns, one by air and one with their running attack, making a statement to the rest of the league of their arrival and intention to dominate the WWFA 2016 season. Final score 31-0. Click here to view photos from the game.

Followed by a Bulldog interception return for touchdown on Everett's third possession.
