Bulldogs Dictate, Dominate Vipers in Playoff Win

Overcast skies bring a much needed respite from the unusually high temperatures for the 2015 Pacific Football League season. The Bellingham Bulldogs play host to the Clark Country Vipers of Vancouver, Wash. Kicking off the first round of the PFL playoffs on a special cancer awareness night. The Bulldogs began sluggish after the long vacation between games but with two big plays from wide receiver Kyle Redmond, Bellingham found the red zone and shook off the rust. The Vipers had no answers for the dominating Bulldogs defensive line. Unable to make significant yards Clark County would not score in the first half. Bellingham would find the end zone five times, putting up a score of 42-0 at halftime. The second half saw the Bulldogs pull their starters and gave the Vipers a chance to save some pride. Finding their stride Clark County scored three times in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs move on to the next round of the playoffs. Final score: 42-24. Click here to view photos of the game.

Bellingham shocked by Portland

Songbirds and the sound of football fill the air at the beautiful sun-soaked Lummi School Field as the Bellingham Bulldogs welcome the visiting Portland Raiders Saturday, June 6th. The Raiders use their air attack to move quickly into the red zone. Taking advantage of the pace, Portland is first to score. A defensive turnover gives the Raiders a shortened field. They do not waste the opportunity and score another touchdown in the first quarter. The Dogs tried to establish a ground attack. After a huge defensive penalty Cody Oakes finds Tobi Seim in the end zone. Bellingham narrows the lead.

The Bulldogs start the second quarter with a long strike to wide receiver Kyle Redmond. A Raiders' penalty puts Bellingham in the red zone giving running back Donovan Dunmore an opportunity to punch it in from the three-yard line, tying the game. Portland does not flinch as they drive down field and score on a quick seam route. Portland catches the Bulldogs off guard and throws deep after a defensive turnover, scoring another touchdown from forty-five yards out and increasing their lead before halftime.

The second half starts hot for Bellingham as they march down field using their running game. The Bulldogs finish the drive off with a bullet from Oakes to Redmond into the end zone. Bellingham's defense stops the Raiders and the Bulldogs take advantage. Feeding the ball to Redmond on three straight plays, Bellingham moves into the red zone where Oakes is able to cap the drive with another touchdown. The game is tied heading into the fourth quarter.

The Raiders waste no time in scoring again after a few long throws down field, Portland pulls out ahead. The Bulldogs claw back. Oakes finds wide receiver Douglas Miller for a big gain. The addition of a defensive penalty puts Bellingham in the red zone. Oakes finishes off the drive with a fifteen yard touchdown scramble. The Bulldogs defense is lifted by an interception from Seim and Bellingham uses Dunmore again to pound the rock. But the drive stalls. Bellingham and Portland trade possessions with neither team getting the advantage. As two minutes remain on the clock the Bulldogs face a fourth and long. Oakes finds tight end Jaa Gordon over the middle for a first down. With under a minute to go Bellingham attempts a field goal but it sails left.

Portland gets the advantage of first possession in overtime and they do not hesitate scoring one more touchdown. The Raiders end the Bulldogs chances at a win with an interception. Final score: 35-42. Click here to view photos from the game.

Bulldogs stumble at home against the Stallions

Sun parts the gloom of overcast skies illuminating Civic Field for a bout between two Pacific Football League heavy-weights Saturday, May 16th. The Bellingham Bulldogs tried to makeup for their first 2015 home loss with a victory over the visiting Stallions from Seattle. The Stallions were out the gate early, taking the opening kickoff to the house and stunning the Bellingham crowd. The Bulldogs would not give up so easily. Moving the ball down-field with a balanced ground and air attack Bellingham positioned themselves in the red zone for a touchdown. But it was not without cost. Several miscues lead to the use of all three of their first half timeouts. The Bulldogs scored two more touchdowns, relying on their defense for quick three-and-outs. However Seattle rallied and scored three unanswered touchdowns to head into half-time with the lead. The second half was dismal for the Bulldogs as injuries to key players and unfortunate officiating killed all momentum in Bellingham's favor. The Stallions kept their foot down, scoring three more times they dominated play an field and handed the Bulldogs their second home loss of the season. Final score 21-45. Bellingham gets Shutout at Home

An emotional first home game of the 2015 Pacific Football League season was bitter-sweet as the South Lane Buzzards handed the Bellingham Bulldogs their first loss on a sun-soaked Civic Field Saturday, May 2nd.

Hearts were heavy for the Bulldogs in remembrance of two exceptional teammates and individuals that passed away during the off-season. Far too young to leave this world, Sean Hicks and Steve Faoro will be forever immortalized in the hearts of their teammates, friends and loved ones.

The play on the field reflected the melancholy moment as the Bulldogs struggled to gain any momentum. The undermanned Buzzards attacked a sluggish Bulldogs team with a series of read-option plays and short passing routes, keeping the chains moving and Bellingham's offense off the field through most of the first half. Early penalties, missed opportunities and poor execution kept the Bulldogs from reaching the red-zone. Overall an aberration from what Bulldog fans typically see on the field. However this loss on this particular night may be the railing point Bellingham needs to catapult them into the playoffs. Final score 0-32. Click here to view photos from the game.
